Lidl Plug-In Solar Panels in the UK: What We Know

Verified 21 Sep 2026

Are Lidl plug-in solar panels on sale in the UK? We have not found a Lidl UK kit yet. Lidl was named as a retail partner back in March, but as of 14 Oct 2026 we have seen no model, no price and no sale date, nothing on lidl.co.uk, and no Lidl-branded device on the approved register. The £400 you may have seen was a press guess. This page is updated when that changes.

SocketSun is not affiliated with Lidl or any retailer or manufacturer named on this page.

What has actually been announced

On 24 Mar 2026 the government said plug-in solar would be in shops "within months". It named Lidl, Iceland and EcoFlow as companies it was working with. That is the whole official link to Lidl. There was no product, price or date attached.

When the law changed and GOV.UK announced the launch on 26 Aug 2026, the retailers we saw named were Currys, B&Q, Screwfix, Amazon, Argos, Wickes and British Gas. Lidl was not among them.

Where the £400 comes from

The Independent published "Lidl to sell £400 plug-in solar panels" on 22 May 2026. The article itself said there was not yet a confirmed Lidl product, price or nationwide sale date, and used £400 to £500 as an illustration for working out payback. The headline travelled further than the caveat. Our write-up of what a £400 plug-in kit costs and where that number came from goes through it in more detail.

What is on Lidl's own website now?

On 14 Oct 2026 we searched lidl.co.uk for "plugin solar", "balcony solar" and "solar panel kit". Each search said no match could be found. The closest things it suggested were small Livarno solar-powered garden lights at £5.99, which are a different product altogether. The Middle of Lidl offers pages for the weeks starting 8, 15 and 18 Oct list plants, toys, kitchen items, hiking gear, garden tools and clothing, and no solar kit or battery. We did not check every Lidl Plus app offer. Lidl's stock changes weekly, so this is a snapshot, not a promise.

Is a Lidl kit on the approved register?

On 13 Oct 2026 we checked the ENA register of plug-in devices, the same list we summarise in the approved kits snapshot on the UK hub. It listed 133 devices from 34 manufacturers. None of them was under the name Lidl, Parkside, Silvercrest or Livarno. That does not prove much, because a retailer's kit is often listed under the maker's name, so we cannot rule out a Lidl kit being in there under a supplier we cannot identify. What we can say is that nothing is labelled as Lidl.

What about the Lidl products in Germany?

Lidl does sell balcony solar equipment in Germany. In May 2026 it launched a 2.24 kWh battery there for €299, with an 800 W output. Tech coverage suggested it could come to the UK if it did well, but that was a guess.

A battery is not a solar kit
The current UK rules cover plug-in solar panels only. Ofgem says plug-in batteries stay prohibited for now. If a Lidl battery appears in the UK, it will not be covered by the rules that took effect on 27 Aug 2026.

If a Lidl kit does appear

  • Find the exact model and look it up on the ENA register. It should say Compliant.
  • Check the mount is included and suits your balcony, wall or garden.
  • Work out payback with your own numbers, not the seller's. The UK savings calculator does the sum for your postcode area.
  • Check permission if you rent or live in a flat. We cover plug-in solar for renters and flats.
  • Tell your network operator within 28 days of switching on, which takes a short online form.

The full checklist is in our guide to the UK plug-in solar rules. If you are new to all this, start with how plug-in solar panels work.

Questions people ask

Does Lidl sell plug-in solar panels in the UK?
We could not find one. On 14 Oct 2026 searches on lidl.co.uk for plug-in solar, balcony solar and solar panel kit found nothing, and we have seen no Lidl UK product page with a model, a price or a sale date. If that changes we will update this page.
How much are Lidl plug-in solar panels?
There is no confirmed UK price. The £400 you may have seen came from a May 2026 press headline that guessed at a price, before any product was announced. What a £400 kit really costs
Is the Lidl plug-in solar battery the same thing?
No. Lidl launched a 2.24 kWh battery for balcony solar in Germany at €299. A battery stores power and is not a solar kit, and plug-in batteries are not covered by the UK rules that started on 27 Aug 2026.
Can I buy a German Lidl balcony kit and use it in the UK?
Do not assume so. A UK device has to meet the UK product specification and be listed on the ENA register. Kits made for Germany are built to a different set of rules. How a UK plug-in kit works
How can I check if a kit is approved?
Look up the exact make and model on the ENA Type Test Register and make sure the status says Compliant. Read the UK rules
